*Childhood and upbringing.
- Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born on February 5, 1985, in Funchal, the capital of the Portuguese island of Madeira. He grew up in Santo António, a nearby parish. Ronaldo is the youngest of four children, with his mother, Maria Dolores dos Santos Viveiros da Aveiro, working as a cook and cleaning woman in the hospitality industry, and his father, José Dinis Aveiro, being a municipal gardener and part-time kit man for the Andorinha football club. His great-grandmother on his father's side, Isabel da Piedade, hailed from the Island of São Vicente, Cape Verde. Ronaldo has an older brother named Hugo and two older sisters named Elma and Liliana Cátia "Katia". He was named after actor and former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, whom his father admired. Despite facing financial difficulties, his mother considered aborting him due to poverty, his father's alcoholism, and the family already having many children. However, her doctor declined to perform the procedure as abortions were illegal in Portugal at that time. Ronaldo grew up in a modest Roman Catholic household, sharing a room with his siblings.
During his childhood, Ronaldo played for Andorinha from 1992 to 1995, where his father served as the kit man. He later spent two years with Nacional before joining Sporting CP's youth system in Lisbon in 1997. At the age of 12, he went on a three-day trial with Sporting CP and was signed for a fee of £1,500. Ronaldo relocated from Madeira to Lisbon to pursue his football career. By the age of 14, he believed he had the potential to play semi-professionally and made the decision, with the support of his mother and Sporting CP tutor Leonel Pontes, to discontinue his education at Escola EB2de Telheiras in the Telheiras area of Lisbon. Ronaldo faced challenges balancing his school responsibilities and football commitments. Living away from his family in Madeira, he did not complete his education beyond the 6th grade. Although he was well-liked by his peers, Ronaldo was expelled from school after throwing a chair at his teacher, whom he believed had mistreated him.
*Private life.
- Family, children, and relationships
.Ronaldo is the proud father of five children. His journey into fatherhood began on June 17, 2010, when he welcomed his first son in the United States. The identity of the mother has been kept private, as per their agreement. Ronaldo has full custody of his son. In 2015, his relationship with Russian model Irina Shayk came to an end after five years.
Later, Ronaldo became a father to twins through surrogacy on June 8, 2017, also in the United States. Currently, he is in a relationship with Argentine-born Spanish model Georgina Rodríguez, who gave birth to their daughter on November 12, 2017. Unfortunately, the couple experienced a tragic loss during the birth of their expected twins in 2022. While the female twin survived, the male twin sadly did not.
Ronaldo's father, José, passed away at the age of 52 in September 2005 due to an alcoholism-related liver condition. This loss occurred when Ronaldo was just 20 years old.
In January 2023, Ronaldo relocated to Saudi Arabia with his family after signing with Al Nassr, a team in the Saudi Pro League. Despite the usual rule that unmarried couples cannot live together in Saudi Arabia, the rulers of the Muslim-leaning Kingdom made an exception for Ronaldo. Although the laws of the Kingdom still prohibit cohabitation without a marriage contract, Saudi authorities have chosen to turn a blind eye and refrain from prosecuting anyone, even though these laws are typically enforced in cases involving problems or crimes, according to an unnamed Saudi lawyer who spoke to the Spanish news agency EFE.
It is worth noting that Ronaldo has Cape Verdean ancestry through his great-grandmother and follows the Roman Catholic faith.
